WHY DIDN'T IGBO AND NIGER DELTA LEADERS NOTICE THIS STRANGULATION?

BY BARR. IZU OSUIGWE
IN GOD'S NAME 2.

Why are you in Lagos?
Why are most people in Lagos?
How come Lagos State was able to operate for 3 years without receiving the usual Federal Govt allocation?
When non indigenes in Lagos are told to leave, what's the irony there?
I asked my young Isoko friend why he was in Lagos, he answered, " because this is where things happen and everyone is here" most would fail the question.
We are all here in Lagos, because of the seaports. The direct, indirect activities at the ports, with the ancillary derivatives are what drives the revenues of the state.

There are Apapa and Tincan ports, recently the governor announced the construction of 2 more ports in badagry and Epe to serve the increasing needs of the country.
The east has like 30 natural depth ports in Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Abia and Edo states. If you include Oguta and Onitsha you have inland river ports, that would adequately ensure cargo penetration to the hinterlands.

Some years ago, vehicle importation was moved to calabar ports, all the agents, importers, chandlers,
etc moved to calabar, the impact was immediate, the business environment of Cross River increased, the nearby cities, Uyo, Aba, PH and Owerri were positively impacted. Immediately, pressure was brought to bear for the policy to stopped.
Lagos State declares N36B as internally generated revenue, monthly, factoring corruption, it could be up to N100B monthly.

If the ports in the East were allowed to thrive and having it that, 80% of the importers are from the East, the revenue there could amount to N60B monthly, which implies average of N7B per month per each state. With resources like this within those economic systems kidnapping, scam and sex trafficking could reduce.
Why would the Federal Govt refuse the ports in the east to operate? Why would the population of the east be denied opportunities in their home States, making them rush to Lagos? They get here struggle to survive, next they are threatened with the lagoon?
